Jamaicans have crowned Vybz Kartel the new King of Dancehall.
The incarcerated superstar dethroned veteran entertainer Beenie Man in a recent poll conducted in Kingston and St Andrew. Over 71 percent of respondents voted for the “Fever” deejay over the Doc as the current King of Dancehall.
The debate for titles started last month after Beenie Man said the rightful female heir to the Dancehall throne was Marion Hall, formerly known as Lady Saw, “The Queen of Dancehall, Marion Hall is baptised, so i am here to see the next queen to come,” he told Winford Williams during his Onstage TV interview.
Spice Blasts Beenie Man, Says Vybz Kartel Is The King
Shortly after his comments Jamaicans declared that Spice was the only female deserving of the title and now they’re saying Beenie Man should give up the crown to Vybz Kartel.
“Right now is Vybz Kartel and Spice addi King and Queen of Dancehall inno,” one fan said. “Wi respect the elders but things and time change, when last Beenie Man drop a hit song?, and see Lady Saw lef the business suh a who deh yah wi a work wid now.”
However despite the overwhelming feedback for Kartel, others shared different views, “Beenie is still the king but Kartel is seriously a strong contender for the title, but it’s foolish to think that either is the king right now when Sean Paul achieved so much for the music and we can’t count out Charly Blacks recent global success” one fan added.
