Vybz Kartel

Vybz Kartel’s attorneys are feeling very confident following a “good appeal.”

One of the attorneys representing Vybz Kartel, Valerie Neita-Robertson, says she is confident that she and her colleagues delivered “a very good appeal.”

According to Neita-Robertson, although they are disappointed with the lengthy wait for a verdict they are very confident in the case they presented.

“Of course, we are always hopeful. There are no guarantees that a client will be acquitted, but to my mind, it is a very good appeal,” she told The Star.

“When they are ready, they will call us. It’s very long, too long. But what can we do but wait,” Neita-Robertson said.

The attorney went on to explain the lengthy process that takes place after a trial.

“After we present our argument, they have to read it through again. And remember that it is four accused. When they (the judges) have finished writing the judgment and have it printed, they will call all the attorneys and say it is ready.”

The senior attorney noted that judgments are usually handed down on a Friday, but attorneys would be notified on a Monday or the latest Wednesday. However, she says they have not received a call as of yet.

Back in December, the Court Of Appeal sent Vybz Kartel’s lead attorney, Tom Tavares-Finson, a letter indicating that a ruling was near.

Vybz Kartel and his three co-accused Shawn Campbell, Kahira Jones, and Andre St John were convicted in 2014 for the 2011 murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams.
