Tommy Lee Sparta set to appear in the St Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Wednesday.
The embattled Dancehall superstar was originally scheduled to appear last week but didn’t.
According to the deejay’s attorney, Donahue Martin, he did not appear due to court registry issues.
“The short answer is the matter never went to court,” he said. “The registrar called yesterday (Wednesday) to indicate that though that was the date we got from the JCF (Jamaica Constabulary Force), it will be on the list for next week Wednesday which I believe is January 13.”
Although the delay was an inconvenience, Martin says the issue is not uncommon in the legal system.
“It’s not particularly strange for the police to provide a date that the court registry, that is, the administration rostering the matters, cannot accommodate. There’s a disconnect.”
Tommy Lee, whose real name is Leroy Russell, has been in custody since December 14.
According to police reports, Russell was arrested after a Toyota Mark X motor vehicle in which he was traveling was intercepted on Holborn Road, St Andrew. The vehicle was reportedly searched, where a firearm was found in his waistband.
Cops say a 9mm pistol, with an extended magazine with 18 rounds of ammunition was taken from the deejay.
Over the past few years, Tommy Lee has had several run-ins with the law. Last year he was detained for several months after being held under the parish-wide State Of Emergency in St James.
