Jamaica’s Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Floyd Green says Popcaan should’ve been nominated for Reggae Grammy.
The Member of Parliament for South West St. Elizabeth added his voice to the growing number of persons who felt that the Recording Committee had snubbed the Unruly Boss.
“On another note @popcaanmusic really should have gotten nominated for the reggae grammy,” Floyd Green wrote on Twitter.
The Recording Academy nominated Buju Banton’s Upside Down 2020, The Wailers One World, Maxi Priest It all Comes Back to Love, Toots and the Maytals’ Got to be tough, and Skip Marley’s Higher Place, for the Best Reggae Album category.
Last week, Popcaan called out the Academy after they snubbed Dancehall for the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards.
Despite Popcaan’s FIXTAPE album doing well in the US market, and even debuting on the Billboard 200 at number 94, which was the sixth-best debut of that week. The project’s currently sits at six on the stream-driven Billboard Reggae Albums chart.
The deejay took to his Instagram account on Wednesday to send congratulations to the nominees while blasting the Grammy awards for being corrupt.
“Big up the nominees for this year grammy SALUTE!!!! @recordingacademy differently tho, unu corruption levels high nuh bboclt!!,” he wrote. “We unstoppable tho dancehall music. We nah stop until unu accept we. #UNRULYFOREVERSOLID mi unruly family them me love unu. #POLITRICKS,” Popskull added before deleting the post.
Fellow recording artiste Christopher Martin also shared that Popcaan should’ve been nominated, “Nah talk like mi know how it go eno, but to me still Poppy fi get nominated fi da Grammy sumn deh,” he wrote via his Instagram story.
