Bounty Killer is using his platform to speak against mining in the Cockpit Country.

The veteran Dancehall entertainer took to his Instagram account recently to blast the government and Jamaicans for being mum on the serious issue facing the island.

“ANY GOVERNMENT SELL OUT THE COCKPIT SHALL NEVER WIN AGAIN IN JAMAICA. Who is here for Jamaica let unuh voices be heard; take a stand either u with us or against us. Speak up folks!! I’M NOT A JLP NOR A PNP. I’M A TRUE JAMAICAN,” Bounty Killer, aka The Poor People Governor wrote under a news clip.

Bounty Killer’s post got some supported from Reggae star Gramps Morgan and Popcaan. “This can’t work none at all G,” Popcaan said.

“Jamaican ppl become the biggest puppets it seem to rass bcuz all of this taking place and it’s not trending but make is was some form of tearing down each other gossip controversy or mix up then the whole social media would be running with it We a watch ppl other ppl business and not minding our own when them mining out the whole Jamaica both land and sea to Bloodclaath CRIMINAL OR GUN MAN DEAD UNUH READY FI BLOCK ROAD AND DEMONSTRATE WEH UNUH DEH NOW NASTY GAL AND BOY.” Bounty Killer said in a follow-up post.

Cockpit Country is an area in Trelawny and Saint Elizabeth parishes in Jamaica. The land is marked by steep-sided hollows, as much as 120 metres (390 ft) deep in places, which are separated by conical hills and ridges. Maroons who had escaped from plantations used the difficult territory for its natural defenses to develop communities outside the control of Spanish or British colonists.

Over the last few years there has been much debate over whether the Government of Jamaica should expand mining in the region, which has the highest diversity of plants and animals anywhere on the island.
