Rita Marley made her first public appearance since her stroke in September 2016.

Earlier this month, the beloved widow of Reggae legend Bob Marley joined her I-Threes sisters, Marcia Griffiths, and Judy Mowatt at the 2019 Jamaica Reggae Industry Association (JaRIA) award ceremony to collect the Iconic Award for a duo/group.

The audience was sent into a frenzy when they saw Rita Marley being brought out on stage in a wheelchair. Several persons moved closer to the front of the stage to get a closer glimpse of Marley and took photos to capture the moment. “Thank you” and “love you” were the only words she said when she was handed the microphone, but it was enough to warm the hearts of the entire audience.

“This is indeed a privilege and an honor – a pleasure for us to be here,” Mowatt said while the group accepted the award from Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sports Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange. “We thank Almighty God that we are here, so many have gone on before us, but we are here, and so we give thanks. I am very very happy that my sister Rita is here with us.”
