Prime Minister Andrew Holness has reacted to the passing of Jamaican supercentenarian Violet Moss-Brown.

The world’s oldest person, 117-year-old died on Friday at the Fairfield Medical Centre in Montego Bay.

“On April 27 this year, I had the honour of presenting the Prime Minister’s Medal of Appreciation to Mrs. Violet Mosse-Brown the oldest living person in the world,” Holness wrote.

“It is sad to report that Mrs. Violet Mosse-Brown has died. As I said at the time, Jamaica is proud of you “Miss Vy” you are an awe-inspiring woman. Your strength and the grace of God have sustained you over a century, a decade and seven years. You are a blessed woman, may God continue to strengthen you for many, many more years. Rest in Peace,” he added.

Her death comes days after the Jamaican Centurian, who is recognised as the world’s oldest person was snatched up from her Duanvale, Trelawny home by family members who claimed she was not receiving the best care.
