Former rising contestant Kei Kei has opened up on why she decided to quit the Digicel Rising Stars talent competition

The 19-year old Portland-born singer recently became the first contestant in the competition’s 14-year history to willingly walk off the show after a slew of negative comments from judges and fans alike.

According to the aspiring singer, she made the decision to quit the TV show after receiving an unbearable amount of nasty comments from fans who disapproved of her vocal capabilities.

Despite making it to top ten of the competition the young singer was arguably a nervous trainwreck throughout as fans and judges criticized her for her off-key singing and awful performances.

“It comes with a lot of pressure. You are on TV, so everybody knows you now. So if you make one single mistake, or two or three or four, everybody is going to be on you,” a disappointed Kei Kei said.

“Sometimes you can’t walk on the road in peace. It has been difficult. I even had somebody pass my gate once and said: ‘Yuh caah sing, yuh need to come off Rising Star.”

According to the singer, she tried to bear the weight of criticism but she ultimately caved in after fans began comparing her to Magnum Kings & Queens contestant Ranking Pumpkin, who was allegedly kept on as a publicity stunt for viewers.

Kei Kei thanked viewers for their tremendous support throughout the course of the competition but claims they deserved better value for their money, which she needs time to improve upon.

The singer, who also aspires to become a biochemist, reveals that she has no plans of giving up on music as she firmly believes she has the talent to make it in the industry if she works hard on her craft.
