Late Reggae icon Frederick ‘Toots’ Hibbert was laid to rest at the National Heroes’ Park in Kingston on Sunday.
Toots, the frontman of the groundbreaking reggae and ska group Toots and the Maytals, was interred next to Reggae icon Dennis Brown, in the last burial spot left in the area reserved in the Park for the burial of Cultural Icons.
Sunday’s interment follows an aborted burial at the Dovecot Memorial Park in St Catherine on October 15, after the burial order, a legal document required before a body can be interred, could not be produced by the family.
Toots and the Maytals has been among the most prominent groups in reggae for almost six decades. The group won the Reggae Grammy Award in 2005 for the album ‘True Love’. Toots is best known for songs such as ‘Bam, Bam’, ‘Pomps and Pride’, ‘Sweet and Dandy’, and ’54-46 (That’s My Number’).
