The Jamaica Defense Force (JDF) has reported encouraging results from the public state of emergency which was declared by Prime Minister Andrew Holness for the parish of St James last Thursday.

According to Colonel Daniel Pryce, the first 24 hours of the security measure have already yielded positive results as they have managed to recover a Kalashnikov rifle and six live rounds in Flanker, which is suspected to have been used in a recent killing.

The JDF has also reported the apprehension of eight members of the notorious Sparta gang, who they say are wanted in connection with various murders and gun-related crimes within the parish.

Pryce also revealed the arrest of 15 people in connection with an illegal petrol outlet in the Freeport area which was raided over the weekend.

The Colonel says despite citizens concerns over the heavy influx of security forces he expects the public’s full co-operation as they seek to restore law and order to the parish of St James.
