Dancehall singer Ronnie Thwaites has been arrested and charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon in New York.

The veteran singjay, who is best known for his 1991 hit single, “Mr Luxury (Wickedest Time), was detained on Monday after cops listed him as wanted for the stabbing of a man during a altercation.

According to police reports, the 51-year-old entertainer, whose real name is Ronald Brown, “intentionally stabbed and slashed a male victim multiple times about the body, causing life-threatening injuries”.

The incident reportedly took place in White Plains Road and East Gun Hill Road in New York on September 20.

Authorities have revealed that the male victim remains in critical condition.

Thwaites burst on the music scene with the single “Mr Luxury (The Wickedest Time)” in late 1991. He released several other singles including “Love of My Life Time,” “Respect Due to All Crew,” “Rasta Man” and “Lucky Day.”
