Bob Marley is the 8th highest-paid dead celebrity for this year according to Forbes.

The King of Reggae made The Highest-Paid Dead Celebrities Of 2020 Forbes annual list after racking up US $14 million.

According to the publication, the Marley family has been extremely innovative with the legend’s legacy and this year raked in US $14 million. It’s not just the “One Love” singer’s music, which accumulated a billion streams around the world, that continues pull in the big bucks but the family’s merchandising effort as well. The well-known brand, House of Marley, has a line of speakers, turntables, and headphones. They’ve also added T-shirts and lighters, which have brought in over $3 million.

In 1977, Marley was diagnosed with cancer; he died as a result of the illness in 1981. His fans around the world expressed their grief, and he received a state funeral in Jamaica. The greatest hits album Legend was released in 1984, and became the best-selling reggae album of all time. Marley also ranks as one of the best-selling music artists of all time, with estimated sales of more than 75 million records worldwide.

Marley was ranked fifth on the list of top-earning deceased celebrities in the world last year.

Pop icon Michael Jackson topped the list for the eighth straight year. Jackson, who died on June 25, 2009, earned all of US$48 million for the 12-month period ending October 1, 2020.
