Dancehall selector Foota Hype is being detained by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Florida.

The controversial Dancehall personality, whose real name is Oneil Ricardo Thomas, is set to face a judge after being detained by Immigration officials in Florida earlier this week.

According to Jamaica’s ambassador to the United States, Audrey Marks, Thomas was detained on Saturday, December 14, after arriving at Port Everglades Seaport aboard the ‘Independence of the Seas’ cruise ship.

Marks reveals that the selector was taken into custody by ICE for further review of his travel documents and admissibility status and is currently being held at the Krome Processing Centre in Florida.

According to the government official, the Jamaican Consulate in Miami has already made contact with the detention center and can confirm that the disc jock has secured legal representation.

Fans had expressed concern for the self-proclaimed ‘viral king’ earlier this week after reports emerged on social media that he was arrested after leaving the Welcome To Jamrock Crusie.

“Everything good with you cuz yuh nevah quiet suh?” one fan questioned, while another commented “Free foota”

Just a few months ago the controversial disc jock raised a few eyebrows after he took to social media claiming that the gay community had been campaigning to have his US and British visas revoked.

According to information on the ICE website a person can be detained by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and its enforcement arm, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for a number of reasons including having arrived at the border without a visa prior to formally applying for asylum or refugee status; an outstanding removal (deportation) order on record, either pending or past due, or missed prior immigration hearing dates or committed a crime, or multiple crimes.
