On Tuesday, Chance The Rapper took to Twitter to call out Heineken for its recent commercial.

In the commercial, a bartender sees a light skinned woman across the party. He cracks open a new bottle of Heineken light and slides it across the bar, it goes past 2 black women and a black man before the light skinned woman grabs the bottle. As the commercial fades out, words appear on the screen that say “Sometimes light is better”.

This is what Chance The Rapper had to say to fans about the racist subliminal, “I think some companies are purposely putting out noticably racist ads so they can get more views. And that shit racist/bogus so I guess I shouldn’t help by posting about it. But I gotta just say tho. The ‘sometimes lighter is better’ Hienekin commercial is terribly racist omg”.

Heineken released this statement after receiving the backlash from Chance and others who noticed the blunder as well, “For decades, Heineken has developed diverse marketing that shows there’s more that unites us than divides us,” a Heineken spokesperson told NBC News. “While we feel the ad is referencing our Heineken Light beer, we missed the mark, are taking the feedback to heart and will use this to influence future campaigns.”
