The Weeknd donates $50,000 to the University of Toronto for Ethiopic Studies

Canadian R&B crooner The Weeknd has donated $50,000 to the University of Toronto to help kick start an Ethiopic Studies program at the college.

The “Earned It” singer who’s real name is Abęl Tesfaye, made the donation towards the  course at the college, saying he was proud to give back support to his hometown by sharing the brilliant history of Ethiopia.

The unique course is set to be launched this calendar year at the University of Toronto, and has already raised over $170,000 to towards the course.

The Weeknd grew up in Toronto and is from Ethiopian heritage, and says he felt the need to give back to the community.
