Vybz Kartel Gets Emotional After Visit From Mother Amid Health Issues

Incarcerated Dancehall superstar Vybz Kartel was emotional last week after he got a special visit from his mother.

The “Fever” deejay’s parents, including his mother,Theresa Wilson-Palmer, were given the green light by authorities to visit the self-proclaimed “Worl Boss” while he was at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) undergoing treatment for an apparent kidney-related ailment.

According to sources, Kartel and his mother burst into tears after being separated for over six years due to his incarceration.

“[Vybz Kartel] seeing his mother for the first time since being locked up really helped his spirits,” sources said. “Fi tell yuh the truth dem couldn’t help but bawl… but then dem start smile/laugh when dem start talk bout the good days….. Kartel is very confident now and is motivated than ever before,” the source added.

On 29 September 2011, Vybz Kartel was arrested by police for marijuana possession and later charged him with the murder of a Jamaican businessman, Barrington Burton, conspiracy to murder and illegal possession of a firearm.

The Deejay was granted bail for the Burton murder on 23 March 2012 for JD$3,000,000, however he remained in jail in connection with a second murder, of one Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams, of Waterford, St Catherine.

On 24 July a jury found Kartel not guilty of the charge of murder of Barrington Burton. However, Kartel remained in custody pending the second murder case. His trial for the murder of Clive Williams started on 18 November 2013, and on 13 March 2014 he was found guilty by an eleven-member jury (10-1) of murder of 27-year-old Williams. The 65-day trial was said to have been the longest in Jamaica’s history.

Vybz Kartel is gearing up for his appeal trial set for February 2018.
