Vybz Kartel has slammed claims he is at fault for juvenile delinquency.
Vybz Kartel has blasted Jamaica’s Children’s Advocate, Diahann Gordon Harrison, for implying he was responsible for juvenile delinquency.
Kartel took to Instagram on Monday to clap back at the state official by posting a throwback video clip.
“Scapegoat Mentality: Pathetic how Vybz Kartel has been labeled as the main protagonist of crime and violence in our society. Well, he’s been incarcerated and for more than five years (Old Government and New Government inna power) and the crime rate has been the worst ever…but he said it long ago so Mr. Bbylon and oonu gyalfren dem weh oonu nuh stop sen out… Seeit yah inna oonu earz drums,” he captioned the video.
Kartel’s comments follow statements made by Harrison at the recent ‘Save Our Boys, Save Our Nation’ prayer breakfast.
According to Harrison, most children who have committed criminal offenses identified Vybz Kartel as their “undisputed role model.”
“This is the person they saw as the be-all and end-all of what you need to strive to be like,” Gordon Harrison said. She would go claim that Vybz Kartel’s lyrics should not be consumed by children.
“Certainly as a parent, that’s not the kind of music my children would be exposed to – not if I have anything to do with it,” she said.
Hundreds of fans have since reacted to Kartel’s comments, with many supporting the deejay on social media.
“Talk it as it is. #Facts# …and not wat they want it to be….. the system is a fraud,” one fan declared.
Over the years Vybz Kartel has repeatedly declared that he does not consider himself a role model. He infamously once said that any parent who uses him as a role model has already “failed as a parent”.
