Vybz Kartel Appeal: Prosecution Say Phone ‘Dialed Itself’ While In Police Custody

The Court Of Appeal erupted into laughter on Friday as prosecutors claimed that the Vybz Kartel’s cell phone must have dialed itself while in police custody.

Assistant director Public Prosecutions Orrett Brown could offer no explanation as to how three calls were made from the entertainer’s phone nine days after it was handed over to police investigators.

Instead, the prosecutor simply repeated the claims by a police investigator during the trial who claimed that the cell phone must have “dialed itself.”

Dancehall Fans Shouldn’t Expect Vybz Kartel Verdict Anytime Soon

The assertion was met with ridicule in the Court Of Appeal by Defense attorneys and media personnel.

The defense had claimed the electronic device should not have been admitted as it was tampered with while in police custody. They pointed out that three calls were made from the device on October 9, 2011, nine days after being turned over as evidence.

Vybz Kartel and his co-accused Shawn Campbell, Kahira Jones and Andre St John are appealing their conviction and sentence for the August 2011 murder of Williams.
