Three Police Officers Charged In St James

Three police constables connected to the Area 1 division were offered bail in the sum of $1 million after they appeared in the St James Parish Court for breaches of the Corruption Prevention Act on Friday.

The three cops have been identified as Constables David Willis, Avelock Thompson and Andre Hamilton all from the Area 1 division.

The officers were slapped with charges following an investigation conducted by detectives attached to MOCA.

It is alleged that the three constables raided a property in Ironshore, St James on Wednesday, January 31, 2018, without a warrant and discovered three bags of ganja. The cops then allegedly negotiated with an occupant for payment to avoid prosecution.

The three cops were allegedly paid J$50,000, US$400 and $200.00 Canadian and the drugs subsequently returned.

A report was made to MOCA-West and the constables arrested on Friday, February 2 following an investigation.

The officers are scheduled to return to court on May 3.
