The Weeknd Cuts Ties With H&M Following Offensive Child Photo

The Weeknd has decided to end his affiliations with fashion giants H&M after the retailer posted a racially offensive photo on their website earlier displaying a black boy modelling a hoodie reading “Coolest Monkey in the Jungle.

The “Starboy” crooner took to his Twitter account this week announcing that he had says cut all ties with the retail giants after being left shocked and embarrassed by the deeply offensive promotional photo.

“Woke up this morning shocked and embarrassed by this photo. I’m deeply offended and will not be working with H&M anymore,” the Weeknd tweeted.

The Toronto superstar had begun collaborating with H&M last year, modelling in their campaigns and developing collaborative pieces with the Swedish fashion company under his XO brand.

Following immense backlash from the photo, the fashion giants released a statement earlier this week apologising to consumers and declaring it would evaluate internal policies to ensure it never happens again.

“We sincerely apologize for offending people with this image of a printed hooded top… We believe in diversity and inclusion in all that we do and will be reviewing all our internal policies accordingly to avoid any future issues.”
