Taxi operator shot on UWI, Mona campus

A taxi operator was reportedly shot and injured by a lone gunman on the grounds of the University of the West Indies’ (UWI) Mona campus in St Andrew on Tuesday.

According to police reports, the taxi operator was carrying several passengers from Half-Way-Tree to Papine, when a lone gunman posing as a passenger brandished a firearm and demand that the driver take him to August Town.

Investigators say the driver reportedly refused, and drove the vehicle onto the grounds of the UWI, Mona campus, where was then shot by the gunman.

The driver was rushed to hospital, his condition remains unknown.
