Statue O Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce To Be Unveiled On Sunday

The statue in honour of Jamaican Olympian Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce will be unveiled on Sunday.

The announcement was made by Culture Minister Olivia Grange who revealed that the special unveiling will take place at a ceremony at Statue Park in the National Stadium in St Andrew.

The ceremony, which lines up perfectly with the commemoration of Heritage Week is set to honour the historic Jamaican athlete, who is regarded as one of the most decorated sprinters of all time.

According to Grange, “Shelly-Ann is one of our modern day heroes whose accomplishments are an inspiration for the entire nation. It is quite fitting that we should unveil Shelly Ann’s statue at this time when we celebrate and highlight Jamaica’s rich heritage in all areas, including sport.”

The bronze statue was designed by renowned sculptor Basil Watson, who was also charged with designing statues of three other outstanding sports stars, including Usain Bolt, under the Jamaica 55 Legacy Programme.

The unveiling will be done by Prime Minister Andrew Holness and the ceremony is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. Members of the public are encouraged to engage in the celebrations.
