Shenseea is dedicating her latest single to all the ‘side chicks.’
Shenseea is empowering all the ‘other women’ in relationships with her latest single “The Sidechick Song.”
In the last few years, the ‘side chick’ status has changed drastically with more women proudly adopting the role.
According to Shenseea, she did the song because she feels it is her duty to give side chicks a sense of belonging.
“This is what I do songs for, to send a message. I know there are a lot of females who are currently in this predicament or have been. I don’t do music for myself alone, I do music for the people and I use my position to represent for those who can’t,” she told The Star.
“This was one of those situations where I wasn’t afraid to bring out my artistry because I know there are many others who could relate,” she said.
However, Shenseea was quick to point out that she is not encouraging women to become side chicks. Rather, she believes we simply shouldn’t judge the situation too quickly.
“I am not a judgmental person but no woman is better than none to think that they can’t be in a situation like this. Every woman is different so if a woman is happy with being a side chick, I personally think that’s what matters the most – happiness! Without that we can’t fully enjoy life,” she said.
Interestingly, Shenseea did admit that the track is at least partly influenced by personal events. Many fans are now speculating whether the star was actually playing second fiddle in a recent relationship.
Since it’s release, the track has been a major success, racking up almost 2 million views in just a week. It is also the number one trending song in the region.
