Man accused of 3-yr-old’s murder can’t get a lawyer

The St Ann man who is accused of murdering a 3-year-old girl in Orange Hill Brown’s Town in July, has reportedly found difficulty in securing an attorney.

According to reports, 19-year-old Alexus Newland made another appearance in the St Ann Parish Court Thursday without legal representation.

Due to Newland’s lack of representation, the presiding Judge Vaughn Facey recommended that a letter be written to Legal Aid Council with a view to secure a lawyer for the accused.

Newland is accused of murdering 3-year-old Nevalesia Campbell of Orange Hill on July 10 while her mother and step-father were at a party.

The child was reportedly hacked to death, and dumped into bushes in the community, her body was discovered in a collaborative search between residents and police officers.

Newland has been was remanded into custody until his next hearing in two weeks.
