Here’s What Should Be Done About Beenie Man & I-Octane Radio Ban

Industry insiders are calling for dialog between Dennis Howard, the general manager for radio services at the RJR Communications Group, and members of the dancehall community.

According to Clyde McKenzie, who is a former general manager at Irie FM, if tensions are to be subsided there needs to be a positive sit down between all parties involved on the issues.

Although he admits such a meeting might prove irrelevant in ultimately trying to alter any decisions made by Howard or RJR, Mckenzie believes that it is the best way forward as at least presents an opportunity for the company to explain the rationale behind its decisions.

Howard was earlier this year subjected to harsh criticism from several entertainers following claims that he implemented an anti-Dancehall format across the company’s three radio stations including FAME 95 FM, RJR 94 FM, and HITZ 92 FM.

It was further alleged by several artists, including Beenie Man and I-Octane that disc jocks were specifically being instructed not to play music from certain artists, a claim which the company later denied.

Mckenzie claims that the situation needs to be addressed quickly or it could get ugly as it is not in the best interest of none of the parties involved.
