Attorneys Say Judge Downplayed Vybz Kartel’s Denial Of Wrongdoing

Attorneys say Vybz Kartel’s downright denial of any involvement in the death of Clive “Lizard” Williams was unfairly downplayed by Justice Lennox Campbell during his murder trial.

According to Oswest Senior-Smith, the attorney for Andre St John, the judge downplayed the weight of the entertainer’s denial of wrongdoing during his summation of the trial to the jury.

“Mr. Palmer categorically said he never sent anyone to kill Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams ‘nor did I do it myself’,” the attorney said, repeating a part of Kartel’s unsworn statement to the jury during the trial.

Senior-Smith claims the judge ignored the deejay’s unsworn statement made during the trial instead choosing to focus on assertions that there was a conspiracy being manufactured against him.

“So that was the defence the judge left to the jury instead of an outright denial,” Senior-Smith argued.

The argument is one of several points raised by the defence this week in their assertions that the case was mishandled by the presiding judge.

Vybz Kartel and his co-accused are currently in the Court Of Appeal attempting to overturn their life sentences for the 2011 murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams.
