Andrew Holness Responds To Lisa Hanna’s Call For Vybz Kartel Ban

Following the Opposition Spokesperson on Youth and Culture, Lisa Hanna, recent suggestion to ban incarcerated superstar Vybz Kartel from local airwaves, Prime Minister Andrew Holness has responded saying the Government will not censor Dancehall Music.

Holness says Jamaica has a liberal democracy and not a society that believes in censorship, his suggestion is to tackle negative information which is transferred in artistic content with the use of education.

“In other societies, you go and you watch the movies and it is not just dancehall, it’s just general. You have hip hop, you have rap music; we are just bombarded with things that have different moral perspectives.,” Holness said on Sunday, according to Jamaica Observer. “But, if you have a well-educated society that can place these things in context, and say this is art, this is from one’s own belief, it’s not what I necessarily believe, or I know that what this person is saying is wrong, then your society can survive that.,” He added.

Last week Hanna sent fans of the self-proclaimed “Worl Boss” into a frenzy after her calls for the artiste to be banned from the radio.
