Lawyers representing incarcerated Dancehall superstar Vybz Kartel have charged that his murder case was mishandled by presiding judge Justice Lennox Campbell.

According to Valerie Neita-Robertson, the entertainer’s lead attorney, harmful police statements, and media reports were dealt with in a “very flippant way” by the presiding judge during the trial.

Neita-Robertson, claims that the judge made no effort to make a distinction between Vybz Kartel the artiste and Adidjah Palmer “the man before the court.”

The defence highlighted that several damaging statements were made by the by the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Corporate Communications Network during the trial was ongoing, which sought to demonize her client.

During the course of the trial, the police announced that the entertainer was under investigation for several other incidents, including some they believe were linked to a high-profile trial.

The defence attorney also cited that the directions and comments made by Campbell during the trial “tended to reflect his view and that it was not a matter of great importance.”

She claims the judge should have given the jury specific instructions during his summation but failed to do so.

The high profile defence attorney made the assertions during her closing arguments on Monday during the appeal case for the embattled entertainer and his three co-accused Shawn Campbell, Kahira Jones, and Andre St John.
