Incarcerated Dancehall superstar Vybz Kartel and three of his co-accused in the murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams were given permission to appeal their conviction and sentence on Wednesday.

The self-proclaimed ‘Worl Boss,’ real name Adidja Palmer, Shawn ‘Shawn Storm’ Campbell, Kahira Jones and Andre St John will be heard in the Court of Appeal later this year as they seek to overturn the 2014 ruling.

According to reports the date will be in September, the men are represented by Tom Tavares-Finson, QC, and Michael Lorne.

Lorne, who represented Campbell at the trial and is instructing Bert Samuels in the appeal, outlined the timetable set by the court with the Jamaica Observer yesterday, “The Registrar of Court has set out a timetable for grounds and skeletal arguments by June 5 and by July we must file our authority. The prosecution must file their response by July 17. Therefore, the appeal is likely to be heard by the Christmas period or the term commencing January.”

Kartel is currently serving life and won’t be eligible for parole after 35 years. The sentencing of the ‘Fever’ hit marker came after a 65-day trial, the longest in Jamaica’s history.
