The Jamaica Forum for Lesbians, All-Sexuals, and Gays (J-FLAG) says it is anticipating more support from mainstream Dancehall artistes for their calendar events in the near future.
According to Suelle Anglin, the associate director of marketing, communications, and engagement for J-FLAG, they are anticipating the support of even more Dancehall acts citing a shift in the culture.
The organization says it has hosted several events between the period of July 31 and August 6 and featured established Dancehall artistes such as Jada Kingdom and headliner D’Angel.
Anglin revealed that both female Dancehall artiste were warmly received during the festivities but she singled out D’Angel for special praise saying she has shown considerable understanding and awareness during their conversations.
D’Angel was one of several artistes, including Shenseea, to declare their support for LGBT fans in recent months.
According to The J-FLAG representative, she believes there has been a shift in Dancehall culture towards the movement, as more and more artiste are starting to show their support.
She pointed out that several other acts were open to performing during the celebrations but sadly the timing was just off for some due to other contractual obligations but they look forward to working with them.
