One of Vybz Kartel’s lawyers says she is not surprised by the decision made by the Court of Appeal.

According to Valerie Neita Robertson, she is not surprised by the appeal rejection. “The public pressure is such that there is a lot of negatives for Vybz Kartel from certain persons and areas of the society, so I expected it,” she declared.

The attorney who joined Kartel’s legal team at the appeal stage is convinced “He did not get a fair trial.”

Earlier this week Vybz Kartel expressed that he was “100 per cent sure” he would be freed. The entertainer made the declaration through his protege Sikka Rymes in an interview with THE STAR.

On Friday the Court of Appeal on Friday handed down a judgment affirming the murder conviction of the entertainer and his co-accused.

Meanwhile, the court has given Kartel’s attorneys seven days to submit information to support their claim that the sentences were excessive. Vybz Kartel was sentenced to 35 years, while his co-convicts Shawn Storm’ Campbell, Kahira Jones, and Andre St John were sentenced to 25 years’ imprisonment.

“I would say that they have already agreed it should be reduced,” Neita Robertson said. She said that the fact that the court is considering a sentence reduction is a big deal.

In 2014 Vybz Kartel, whose real name is Adidjah Palmer, was convicted for the 2011 murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams.
