Vybz Kartel’s upcoming appeal to challenge his 2014 murder conviction has finally begun to take shape as his legal team filed supplementary grounds and skeleton arguments in the Court of Appeal in downtown Kingston earlier this week.

The legal team representing the incarcerated Dancehall superstar filed a 12 point appeal document outlining the reasons why the deejay should be freed.

According to the deejay’s legal team, which includes Tom Tavares-Finson, Valerie Neita Robertson, and Bert Samuels, the entertainer should be freed as he was given an unfair trial with several questionable occurrences.

The legal team argues that trial judge, Justice Lennox Campbell, erred in admitting contaminated cellphone evidence as phones’ integrity had been compromised.

The attorneys also argued that the judge chose to allow videographic evidence which was highly prejudicial and, of little, if any, probative value. This they claim invited the jury to speculate facts which ultimately denied their client a fair trial.

According to the lawyers, these errors are Constitutional breaches as well as an abrogation of established principles designed to protect the rights of the citizens on trial and the entertainer’s life sentence should be overturned.

Vybz Kartel is currently serving a life sentence for the 2011 murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams. He will have to serve 35 years before becoming eligible for parole.
