Usain Bolt Blasted Over Controversial Statement

Usain Bolt has come under fire from Jamaicans following his recent controversial statement.

During a recent interview, the Jamaican sprint legend reportedly said he will not encourage Bayer Leverkusen football star Leon Bailey to play for the national team as it is currently below his level.

Social media users have since blasted Bolt for his comments as according to them Bailey should be proud to wear the Jamaican colours.

Bolt however has received support from several others including recording artiste Cecile who has sided with his statement.

Here’s The Latest On Usain Bolt Football Career

Bailey joined Bayer Leverkusen in January 2017 for a fee of €20 million, after interest from Manchester United and Chelsea. Bailey played in a friendly match for Jamaica under-23’s on 8 March 2015 versus the Cayman Islands under-23 side, where he scored directly from a freekick. However last year it was reported that Bailey would refuse Jamaica call ups until the standards of Jamaican football improved.

In September, Bailey told German football magazine Kicker: “They always want me to play for Jamaica, but I’ve had personal problems with the association since I was eleven or twelve years old”.

Back in January, Winfried Schäfer, the former Jamaican national team coach said, “I really wanted to make him a national player. I have invited him several times – among others to the Gold Cup in America and to international matches. I also called at Genk. But his step-father blocked everything.”
