One week later and Tommy Lee Sparta remains in police custody.

The Dancehall entertainer has been in lock-up in Montego Bay, St James, since Tuesday, July 7 as a person of interest. Tommy Lee Sparta, given name Leroy Russell, was requested to report to the Freeport Police Station in relation to the upsurge in violence in the Flanker community of St James.

On Tuesday, July 14 detectives scheduled two questioning sessions for the artiste on 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM.

Sparta was also interrogated on Friday, July 10 however was told that the anti-gang branch of the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigation Branch (C-TOC) wanted to interview him.

The intensive questioning is not sitting well with Tommy Lee Sparta’s lawyer, Ernest Smith, who strongly believe the police are looking for a scapegoat.

“They have a problem in Montego Bay and they are looking a scapegoat,” the attorney-at-law told The Jamaica star. “The police say they have taken in my client because he has influence in Flanker and they want to question him about gang-related matters and murders in Flanker. But, I told them that the politicians also have a lot of influence all over Jamaica. Do you send for them whenever there’s a flare-up of violence?” Smith questioned.

Ernest Smith said it clear the cops are just fishing and have nothing on his client after Friday’s line of questioning. “‘Do you know John Brown? Do you know so and so gang leader. Are you a gang leader?’ Those are the vague questions he was asked,” Smith continued.

Smith also revealed his plans to file a habeaus corpus and make an oral application to get his client freed at the St James Parish Court.
