Tanya Stephens Respond To Hateful Comments Over Her Looks

Tanya Stephens is hitting back at online trolls who bashed her appearance in her recent video.

The veteran reggae singer came under fire last week after she uploaded a video on Instagram questioning when its the right time for her to share her views like other social media users.

Unfortunately, many opted to ignore the ‘It’s A Pity’ singer’s question and slammed her appearance claiming she looked ‘tired’, needed to wear ‘makeup’ and looked ‘ugly.’ Tanya is now responded to those critics in a lengthly post, view below.

“These are a few comments under a video I posted which was shared by one of those ‘ig likes’ accounts. Now…obviously these aren’t compliments, on the contrary they are intended as put downs,” she wrote.

“To someone else they very well might have hit the mark. I was more self assured and confident PLUS accomplished than most of these kids will ever be before they were born. I have the kind of self assurance that doesn’t come from success alone. I have the kind of confidence which comes from internal and external exposure, critical thinking, growth, knowledge that these comments will not affect my diet or health. The sad fact though, is that not everybody has this.”

“Not even every ‘celebrity’. These kind of comments come from BLACK people EVERY TIME I post a picture or video without makeup on. EVERY TIME. This is reflective of a deeper disturbance than merely seeking applause from bring rude. I look like their mothers, grandmothers, sisters, etc. and if they kept their faces CLEAN long enough to SEE THEMSELVES they would see that I LOOK LIKE THEM. We’re black. And yes, black DOES crack. We get older and we get age spots, dark circles, inconsistent bladders, wrinkles, stretch marks, memory loss, loose skin, sagging breasts. My daughter doesn’t have them yet because she is young, but she too will get them all.”

“As will every last one of you. Now some will come here and tell me to ignore them but that’s not what we do. We correct and we teach and we pass down the best of us to younger generations so they may build on it and become better. We don’t leave them to marinate in their ignorance so they can take our species on an aimless journey back in time. My body is mine to do whatever I see fit with…makeup, no makeup. Your mind is yours to do as you see fit with…evolve, fall into decay. I’d LOVE it if you all choose to evolve, and when you do I and my black, unbleached, naturally ageing face will be here urging you on and sharing growth tools with you. Until then continue to “makeup” for what you lack, but understand this. I LACK NOTHING,” she added.
