Iconic Pop superstar Madonna has seemingly reacted to comments made by Lady Gaga after she implied the legendary singer doesn't write her own music.

The 58-year-old "Like a Virgin" singer took to Instagram to seemingly defend herself following comments made by Gaga during a recent interview. Gaga had seemingly implied that the queen of pop didn't write her own material.

The iconic star took to Instagram posting a image of her hands smudged with ink, declaring that she didn't need to defend her writing ability.

"This post is not a commentary on my ability to write. I have no need to defend myself. I love the art of writing. Putting ink to paper. Its more soulful then texting and so beautiful to receive a handwritten letter," she captioned her post.

The apparent reaction came after comments made by Lady Gaga during her interview on Apple's Beats 1 radio. Gaga discarded comparisons between herself and Madonna, insisting that they are "very different" artistes. Gaga would go on to praise Madonna's many career achievements, but delivered an apparent backhanded response to any comparisons.

"I play a lot of instruments, I write all my own music. I spend hours and hours a day in the studio, I’m a producer, I’m a writer. What I do is different. I’m not just rehearsing over and over again to put on a show."
