Survey Says Unemployed & Low Income Earners In Jamaica Use Social Media The Most

A survey conducted by the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ), has indicated that most Jamaican social media users are unemployed, or from low income categories.

The survey, which was conducted by the PSOJ, sought to determine how millennial consumer behaviours are actually shaped by the widespread adoption of smartphones and the mobile Internet.

According to the survey, findings indicate that as much as 34% of respondents were actually unemployed, 50% being low income workers, while only one per cent working at top managerial levels.

The PSOJ says the exercise involved over 3,750 participants, predominantly ranging from the 18-34 age group, with 66 per cent being female and 34 per cent male.

Findings indicated that a majority of the participants earned a monthly income of under US$200 (J$25,664), while 15 per cent earn more than US$1,000 (J$128,320) per month.
