Sumfest organizers will be crowning a ‘King Of The Dancehall’ and it may not be who you think.

For years numerous Dancehall stars have battled over the title of ‘King’ but it seems Sumfest will make it official.

Last week it was announced that Spice would be crowned ‘Queen Of The Dancehall’ at this year’s festival. However, it seems she will not be alone as Sumfest promoters have revealed there will also be King.

According to Sumfest owner Joe Bogdanovich, there will be two crownings on the night. However the second may not be who most fans expect.

Despite the recent feuds over the title between Vybz Kartel and Beenie Man it seems Shabba Ranks will be the man crowned.

Bogdanovich gave a subtle hint that the veteran deejay was actually the king-to-be during a recent interview with The Star.

“I think he’s the first one to ever get a Grammy award,” Bogdanovich slyly declared.

The Downsound Records CEO’s hint lines up perfectly with the fact that Shabba Ranks is set to headline the festival. It is also interesting to note that Shabba was indeed the first Dancehall artiste to win a Grammy back in 1992.

According to Bogdanovich, both acts will be worthy recipients of the thrones.

“Spice has been on Reggae Sumfest more than 10 times, and she’s so exceptional every year, doing what she’s doing and not only here in Jamaica, but around the world on all these various television shows. That’s the logic behind crowning her as the dancehall queen from Reggae Sumfest. We really appreciate all the great things she’s done as a dancehall artiste,” Bogdanovich said.

“We’ll have her crown there unveiled as well as the male counterpart’s crown will be there also. It’s going to be a great launch,” he declared.

Last week the entertainment mogul also dubbed Shabba as “The Emperor of Dancehall, in any era.”
