Shaggy Rihanna

Shaggy turned down a chance to feature on Rihanna’s upcoming studio album.

The Grammy-winning Reggae artiste says that he turned down the opportunity to appear on Rihanna’s pending reggae album.

According to Shaggy, he was approached by Rihanna’s team but opted out to let ‘younger’ talent audition for the spots.

“They approached me for the Rihanna project, yeah. There’s a lot of great people involved, but for me, I didn’t need to audition to be on the record, I’ll leave that to younger guys. But from what I hear it should be good,” Shaggy said.

The “It Wasn’t Me” deejay made the revelation during an interview with popular UK tabloid the Daily Star.

In recent months many have debated whether international artistes delving into Dancehall is actually good for the genre.

However, according to Shaggy, he sees no negative impact and it only helps to promote the genre overall.

“It’s healthy competition. Dancehall is in good place but we need as many people to do this art form as possible. When it crosses over and becomes popular with artistes from other genres and other cultures, that can only be good,” he said.

Rihanna’s reggae/dancehall album was set for release last December, but once again the Pop superstar has delayed the project.

Two weeks ago, Rihanna teased fans of an impending release after posting a video of a dancing mouse with the attached caption ‘Me listening to R9 by myself and refusing to release it.’
