Shaggy Honored For Military Service, Advocacy At Veterans Day Dinner

Shaggy was honored for his military service and advocacy for veterans at Boston Veterans Day Dinner.

The Grammy-winning entertainer was among a number of U.S. Marine Gulf War veterans who were recoginzed for their service and support for fellow veterans, last week.

The veterans dinner was hosted by Home Base, a Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital Program which provides mental health and wellness programs for veterans and their families. All proceeds from the event will directly support Home Base’s efforts.

Shaggy has long attributed his experience in the United States Military as among the factors which made him into the person he is. The superstar, whose real name is Orville Burrell, migrated from Jamaica to the United States at the age of 18, and after that, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1988. He served as a Field Artillery Cannon Crewman within the Field Artillery Battery in the 10th Marine Regiment during the Persian Gulf War.
