Cuban-born Jamaican singer and the widow of Bob Marley, Rita Marley and Reggae superstar Sizzla Kalonji will be honoured by the Government at this year’s staging of the Grand Gala on Independence Day, August 6, at the National Stadium.
The announced was made by Minister of Culture, Entertainment, Gender Affairs and Sport, Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange during a post-Cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House.
According to Grange, Rita Marley and Sizzla are deserving of the honours. They will be joining the ranks of past honourees who includes; Jimmy Cliff, Freddy McGregor, Marcia Griffiths and Damion ‘Junior Gong’ Marley.
The budget allocated for this year’s Grand Gala is $85 million, up from $79 million which was expended for last year’s event. Entertainers Marion Hall, Cocoa Tea and Sister Pat ar booked to appear.
