Prosecutors lose bid to appeal Oscar Pistorius’ 6-Year Sentence

A South African judge has rejected the prosecution’s request to appeal Oscar Pistorius’ six-year prison sentence for the murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

The prosecution had requested permission to appeal the sentencing, arguing that they believed the sentence was far too lenient considering the nature of the crime.

However the judge dismissed the arguments, and ruled that the sentencing would be upheld.

The 29-year-old former Paralympic champion and was convicted of culpable homicide was upgraded to murder by South Africa’s supreme court of appeal last December.

Pistorius shot his girlfriend to death, claiming he believed she was an intruder at his home in February 2013.
