Promoters are being cautioned to consider all costs before trying to book artistes.

Industry insiders are advising promoters that booking an artiste comes with commitments that have to be honoured.

According to figures within the industry, there are many fees when booking an artiste separate from their base performance fee.

Other expenses promoters should factor into their budgets include airfare, transportation, accommodation, the artiste’s entourage, and per diem.

Publicist, Janice Young recently tackled the issue in an interview, explaining why so many artistes experience problems with promoters.

“But they don’t really want to pay them the money that is due to them. If an artiste charges US$5,000 or $10,000, that is not your total cost. You’re looking at spending another US$8,000 just on rider information,” she said.

The issue was recently highlighted by Spice, who was forced to cancel an appearance in Columbus, the United States.

Spice was forced to apologize to fans, explaining that the promoters failed to organize travel arrangements or accommodation.

The Dancehall superstar has since declared that she would not be advertising anymore events until all necessary obligations are fulfilled.
