Prince’s estate has reportedly filed a lawsuit against rapper Jay Z and his streaming company TIDAL.
According to the Star Tribune, Prince’s estate filed a federal lawsuit against Roc Nation and the rapper’s streaming service TIDAL earlier this week for copyright infringement.
The late pop icon’s music entities, NPG Records Inc. and NPG Music Publishing, claimed that TIDAL violated copyright infringement by streaming unauthorized works of the musician following his death.
NPG had previously had a past agreement granting TIDAL exclusive rights to Prince’s HitNRun: Phase 1 album for 90 days. However they claim the streaming service made other material from Prince’s musical catalog available on their service without consent.

Roc Nation has reportedly since fired back at the claims stating that they had a oral and written agreement with the artiste granting them the right to exclusively stream Prince’s catalog.
NPG is reportedly seeking damages and also requesting that that Roc Nation and TIDAL stop streaming and selling any Prince music not featured on HitNRun: Phase 1.
