Dancehall artiste Popcaan states that Mavado is irreverent and challenges him to release an album.

The Unruly Boss recently did an interview with the crew from Hot 97’s Ebro in the Morning and one of the topics that were discussed was his relationship with longtime rival Mavado.

Popcaan revealed that he would be willing to bury the hatchet in order to work together for the uprising of the culture “Mavado is a ensies.. him irrelevant, him need to make ah album. That’s my words to Mavado, I dare you to make an album, bro.” said the OVO signed artiste.

The Gully Gad released his last album “A Better Tomorrow” in 2009 which was over a decade ago. Popcaan’s most recent album FIXTAPE made it into the top 100 of the Billboard 200 chart and debuted at NO.2 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart.

“A man like Mavado should be in the studio right now, like putting out some projects like motivating these youths. Wha’ yuh doing bro? You just chillin and trying to make mischief to stay around,” Popcaan said.

In recent years there has been a decrease in the amount of music Mavado puts out. In his recent release titled “Legacy” the Gully Gad states that he has done a lot of work in his near two decades in the business, while hinting that it was now time to enjoy the fruits of his labour.

Prior to his track “Legacy” the Gully Gad released a gritty diss track towards Drake after the Canadian rapper dropped a sneak diss and showed love the rival faction, the GAZA, on his “Only You Freestyle”.

Nearly a decade ago, there was no tension between Popcaan and Mavado even though they were from separate factions. They even did songs together such as, Snopp Dogg’s “Lighter’s Up,” and Popcaan’s “Everything Nice” remix. Even so, a couple years later the two waged am all out war with releases including, “Funeral,” by Mavado and “Dutty Dread” by Popcaan.

“I don’t know about everybody enuh but wid me, I’m always willing to make the best move for the music and for the culture … I will put my ego aside and everything and do it for the culture. Well not everybody tinks like dat so ah mean I just play my part at the end of the day and always try to tell dem dat the unity within the music will bring more light to it. So if they don’t want to take my advice fine, I will just do what I do.” Popcaan stated.
