Popcaan, Alkaline Nominated For MOBO Award

Two of Dancehall’s leading artistes, Popcaan and Alkaline, are among the five artistes  who have been nominated for this year’s MOBO Awards (Music of Black Origin).

The other three artistes include Protoje, Kranium and Spice who is the only female Dancehall artiste nominated in the Best Reggae Act Category. Since the inception of the awards in 1996 “The Needle Eye” artiste is the third reggae female artiste to ever receive a MOBO nomination in that category. Sylvia Tella was nominated in 1997 and Etana received a nomination in 2008 but no female has ever won the award.

Both Popcaan and Alkaline have been making their mark in the dancehall industry and have managed to gain huge success within the past year. This marks the fifth nomination for the “Unruly Boss”  and the second for both Protoje and Alkaline.

Alkaline’s “On Fleek” also copped the award for best Dancehall Song of the Year at the recently held Hapilos 21st Awards show and his debut album “New Level Unlocked” peaked at No.1 on Billboard’s Reggae Chart.
