Police officer convicted for shooting black teen for ‘Shoplifting’ at Walmart

A police officer has been convicted for the shooting death of a unarmed teen at a Virginia Walmart store.

Stephen Ranking, a Portsmouth police officer, was convicted of voluntary manslaughter by a jury on Thursday in relation to the shooting death of an unarmed teen, William Chapman at a Walmart outlet in Virginia.

It is alleged that 18-year-old Chapman was shot dead by the officer after being caught shoplifting. He was shot in the chest and the face while his hands were reportedly in the air.

The 36-year-old officer now faces up to 10 years in prison.
