Police Constable Charged In St James

A police constable attached to the Barnett Street Police Station has been offered bail in the sum of $250,000 after appearing in the St James Parish Court last Thursday on larceny charges.

The cop, who has been identified as Jhanoye Johnson, was charged with breaches of the Larceny Act after allegedly removing a seized motorcycle from the Barnett Street police compound.

According to reports from the Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA), the cop was questioned and charged after suspicions were raised about his involvement in the disappearance of a motorcycle from the compound.

Suspicions were reportedly aroused after senior cops observed the officer turning up for duty with a similar motorcycle to that of the missing bike, which was seized back in 2017.

Johnson was interrogated by detectives attached to MOCA West and would subsequently admit to removing the motorcycle from the compound and making modifications to it.

He will reappear in the St James Parish Court tomorrow.
