Ninjaman thinks he was given an unfair trial similarly to Vybz Kartel.

The veteran entertainer was found guilty of murder and shooting with intent in the Home Circuit Court in downtown Kingston, Jamaica last month. However Ninjaman is now saying that the Jamaican justice system failed because he’s innocent.

According to Ninjaman’s brother, Gonzellio Ballentine, he believes the ‘Don Gorgon’ was convicted base on a perception that he is a murderer.

“They convicted him base on his image as a bad man and as a hardcore dancehall artist who deejays gun lyrics,” Ballentine said. “That doesn’t mean that you’re a murderer or a killer, not because you do music about badness means that you’re guilty of a crime. The whole trial was biased against him from the start and they have this case over his head for eight years and now they want to send him to prison for the rest of his life.”

Sources close to the former Downsound Records deejay are making the same arguments, “Right now the government used Ninja as an example because crime and corruption is out of control and they want to use him to send a message,” he said. “They used him because he is a powerful figure in the society just like how they used Vybz Kartel to send a message and send him to prison for life. This is not fair to these artists because that is like ending their lives.”

Ninjaman Sends Warning Following Murder Conviction

Ninjaman, real Desmond Ballentine, is now facing the possibility of a life sentence. He was convicted with his son Jahneil and another man, Dennis Clayton, for the murder of Ricardo Johnson, also known as ‘Ricky Trooper’ in Olympic Gardens, St. Andrew, Jamaica back in 2009.

A seven-member jury, which consisted of four men and three women found Ninjaman guilty or murder and shooting with intent. His two co-accused were also convicted of murder, but were freed of the second charge.

The men are set to return to court on December 15 for sentencing.

Meanwhile, Vybz Kartel is currently serving life for the murder of former associate Clive “Lizard” Williams, his protege Shawn “Storm” Campbell, and his friends Andre St John and Kahira Jones, were also convicted.
