Popular Dancehall selector DJ Niko of Chromatic Sound is reportedly dead.
According to reports, Niko, whose given name is Nicholas Grant, passed away Tuesday. He has been battling kidney disease since 2015.
After leaving the spotlight, Niko returned a year later to announce his illness and launched a GoFundMe account to cover his USD $50,000 medical fee.
A large portion was generated last year November from the staging of a charity event dubbed “Dancehall for a Cause” held at the Triple Century Car Park in New Kingston.
The concert attracted a huge turnout of supporters, including dancehall artistes like Tommy Lee Sparta, Vershon, Dexta Daps, and Bugle.
DJ Niko Chromatic was expected to undergo a kidney operation in Cuba a few months ago after he was given the green light from a kidney donor.
Niko, along with Warren “Creep” Lee of Chromatic, began producing mixtapes in 2005 and started the sound system shortly after.
